Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
-Philippians 4:8-9 NKJV
How many of us take vitamins daily? Multiple right? We do this in order to help our nutrition and physical well being. Well, the same is true in our spiritual walk with the Lord. If we could just learn to take these verses as a spiritual pill daily, we would come to find that when situations arise (because they will) we would be ready and equipped to sail through them. Doing this is most needed when we face difficulties in our everyday situations. There are moments when reminders come to mind of tragic events that occurred in my life and it becomes difficult to put my focus back on the words of Jesus. But as I began to speak these scriptures into my spirit, that’s when the atmosphere shifts. Even when hateful words that were said start to flood my thoughts (words that I know are not from God), rather than dwelling on this I begin to declare “this is not You speaking Lord, so I don’t have to receive it! You have the final say!”. Suddenly Gods word outweighs all the painful thoughts and emotions. His peace overcomes me and the joy of His All-Sovereign existence overpowers what is attempting to discourage me. I’m able to silence the lies of the enemy by putting my mind back on Gods truth. Paul tells us to follow his example such as when he was suffering for the name of Jesus, he never stopped sharing the Gospel and doing the work God assigned him. We must learn to do the same! When we face trials of our own, we need to learn to dwell on “these things” as the word says. So regardless of what you’re facing, I want to encourage you to go back and meditate on these verses. By learning to make this part of your daily spiritual routine, you’ll be able to walk through any hardship that comes your way.
In conclusion:
Our mind is a very powerful part of the body God has given us. Let’s make a decision to fill it with the words of Jesus so we can live in the victory God intends for us!
// prayer //
Father, help us to give all of our mind to You. Even when we find ourselves in despair because of what is before us, remind us of Your word and help us to think on the things of a good report. Lord, fill our minds with Your truth and with Your promises. Because of Your sacrifice, we will overcome and honor You. Help us to allow Your word to grow root in our souls and teach us to walk in them daily. In Jesus name, Amen.
Be Encouraged!
