Need of Refreshing

It’s been raining the last few days. As someone who struggles with depression, constant rainstorms are not ideal. The dark clouds can be somewhat depressing. I would much rather prefer bright sunshine and blue skies. Rain is necessary though. It nourishes the ground, trees, plants etc… necessary to produce life around us and for us. The same is true in the Spirit. We need a refreshing of the Holy Spirit to fill us and bring us back to spiritual life at times. Refreshing when the joy inside of us has turned dry. Or when we filled ourselves with temporary pleasures only to be left completely empty. For times when tragedy and difficulty come and we need to be replenished with hope once again. We need refreshing. If we only look at the storms in life or the showers coming down as bad thing, we miss the opportunity to be refreshed, to be renewed. God is always using everything in our lives as constant reminders of our need for Him. We need to change our perspective, we need to choose by faith to believe these moments are for our good and for His purpose. He has already promised us He has a good plan for our lives, so by faith we can choose to believe this too is being used for our good. Are there dark clouds? Do you wish the sun was out instead? How I long to sit with you and feel the warm rays of precious sunshine kiss our skin while we drink lattes and feel all kinds of happiness… but until then, I choose to turn my eyes back to the Lord. I choose to believe by faith the darkness I see and feel is being used for my good. The gentle rain I see falling from the sky is a sign of God’s grace falling constantly for me. Each drop nourishing the ground is a reminder of each drop I need of the blood of Jesus to restore His Spirit within me. How I need to be filled, restored, and renewed, again and again. Friend, I want to encourage you to run to the Lord and to ask Him to refresh you once again. I want to remind you that He is not far away, in fact He is ever near and ever present. He is constant and the only One who never leaves us and never forsakes us. He is faithful and every promise He gave us will come to pass. You can be renewed, you can be restored. There is a refreshing God wants to do in you and through you. Absolutely nothing is wasted when we give our lives to Him, even the storms in life have a meaning and purpose. You and I are the soil of His kingdom, holding within us His beauty and His glorious light. God wants to grow more faith, more grace, more mercy, more humbleness within us. Run to Him and let His love soak every part of your life. Allow His word to cleanse you from every fear, every doubt, every trouble. He alone will refresh and restore our souls. Oh what beauty is there for Him to plant within us… keep going sweet friend.

Lord, just as the rain is falling to nourish the ground below, how I long to be refreshed by You. Fill me once again with Your Holy Spirit, restore within me the joy of Your salvation. Fill me with more and more of You and empty me of my myself. How I long for You Lord, I am nothing without You. Thank You for the storms of life that bring me to my knees before You. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
