Today is rainy and cold. I don’t know about you but I am not a fan of gloomy days. Something about the dark sky and falling rain makes me a little somber. I prefer the sunshine. Ah yes, I prefer the warm weather and bright blue sky. But as we all know, rain is much needed. Rain nourishes the ground, refreshes crops and pastures. Rain helps to prevent a drought. It’s even essential for sustaining life. The same is true with the storms in our life. Some of them are so severe they bring destruction. Some continue to pour down in hardships. Some make us feel sad and somber as we long for the sun. But they can also awaken us to to seek after the sovereign God who is always in control. Friend, if you find yourself in this season right now look up to the heavens and call out to God. Although you might see the gloom of your circumstance, know the blue sky of Gods everlasting love is never out of sight. As the pain of life rains down, seek God and turn your eyes to Him. He is not only the God who can calm the storm in the sea, He is the God who can calm the storm inside of us. When we fix our eyes on Jesus, He begins to rain down His gentle love. Love that never fails regardless of the circumstance. He will begin to pour out His comfort and His peace over you. He will begin to shower you with His strength to endure. Just as the rain nourishes the ground, God begins to nourish us. God refreshes the crops and pastures within our minds and inside our hearts. His rain prevents every drought and overflows with His goodness. Just as the rain is essential for sustaining life, His word and His presence is essential for sustaining us. We will begin to feel the warmth of His Spirit as we pray to the God who rules the storms. This is grace, breaking through the dark with glorious light and pouring down in abundance.

Let us know, Let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord. His going forth is established as the morning; He will come to us like the rain… -Hosea 6:3

Amen! Thank you Val for reminding me! “I look to the heavens which cometh my help.”
I differ in that I love dark rainy days. They calm and soothe me. Days like this seem to fill my parched dryness.
Thank you Jesus for knowledge, wisdom and understanding if we seek to know you. Days like this remind me to draw close to you and rest in you.
