Finding God in the Dark

Life can be so distracting. There are to-do lists that keep replaying in my mind. Everyday is this constant battle to keep up. Every now and then there is some great joy thrown in. Every now and then some pain and sorrow. Confusion too. Exhaustion from the daily demands. For me, it’s in the dark. When the TV is off, when the phone is put down, when the quiet fills the room I’m in, when I let go of the distractions from the day and I draw near to Him. There is something to be said about these moments. It’s about surrender. God is showing me it’s not just about belonging to a church. It’s not a hashtag. It’s not a trend. It’s not a familiar phrase. It’s not a comfort zone. It’s not just a category or title. Not a religious dutie. Not something you just claim but something you actually live, daily. Not just in word or in deed. But more about dying to self in order to live for Him. God wants to invade every area of my life. He wants me to live for Him not just in the good, but in the bad too. When things are difficult or when circumstances dictate my thoughts. Even when I have no strength, even when I’m weak. When depression seeps in and begins to settle. When I begin to doubt my faith. Not just in the outward appearance but in the depths of my heart. Not just in the light, but in the dark too.

He wants us to surrender. He needs that quiet time with us to remind us of His promises. In these quiet moments, He begins to speak to our hearts through His word. For me, I play worship music. I welcome the Holy Spirit to come in and take control. It’s in those dark moments, God is able to shine His light. Sitting quietly before the God of the universe, waiting to hear from Him. Pouring out our hearts into His glorious hands. This is surrender. Take the time to stop the noise in your life. To lay aside every distraction both good and bad and begin to draw near to Him. Surrender friend. Let go and let Him work in the dark areas of your life and your heart.

// prayer //

Lord quiet my sourroundings so that I can hear You clearly. Speak to my heart and my soul. Hush all the doubts, all the distractions and draw me closer to You as I surrender everything into Your hands. Thank You for meeting me here just where I am. In Your precious name I pray, in Jesus name, Amen.

  1. My daughter the gift I desperately prayed for. The gift that my God handed to me 34 yrs ago. The day that I handed you back to Him was the day of His promises came to light in that He took it and as He said He can make beauty out of ashes in my personal relationship with Him….I am so grateful for you, you have never failed to amaze me!
    I love you;) Mom in 16:33
